Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle, Tickets Included

About this experience

To do in Slovenia runs this one every day, twice. The morning van stops at the InterContinental at 8:00, the City Hotel at 8:05 and French Revolution Square, under the obelisk, at 8:10. The afternoon run moves with the seasons. The listing gives about an hour and a half at Postojna Cave and an hour at Predjama Castle, and both entrance tickets are in the price, plus an audio guide for the castle.

With 1,168 reviews at 4.8, this is the trip most people pick, and the reason is plain: you pay once and nobody asks you for money at the gate. Compare that with the Gray Line minivan, which looks cheaper until you add the park's combined ticket, EUR 49.90 for an adult on the park's own ticket page. Inside the cave the park takes over. You ride the cave train 3.7 km into the mountain, walk a bit over a kilometre with a park guide, and ride back out. Your driver-guide handles the road, the stories on the way and getting you to the right gate on time.

Three caveats from the reviews. The cave walk includes a 200 m climb at a 20% gradient, and guests with bad knees or legs found it hard. Tall travellers complain about the back seats. And one guest who queued anyway called the skip-the-line promise "a lie". There is no lunch stop, so bring food.

  • Both entrance tickets in one price, nothing to buy at the gate
  • Morning or afternoon departure, every day of the year
  • Three pickup points in central Ljubljana
  • Audio guide at Predjama Castle

The caves are out of this world! I've never seen anything like it. Totally worth it. The castle is interesting but the caves were outstanding.

Tips before you book

  • Pack snacks. A guest wrote that there is "not a lot of time to sit and eat anything and the tour takes a while".
  • Bring a warm layer: the cave is 10°C all year. The park hires out rain jackets for EUR 8 if you forget.
  • Wear proper shoes. The listing warns against flip-flops, and the castle has many uneven steps.
  • Afternoon pickups at the InterContinental: 13:00 in April and October, 14:10 from May to September, 12:15 from November to March.
  • Leave big backpacks at the hotel. The park advises against bags and umbrellas in the cave.
